When are classes held?

Grades K to 8 - 8:45-9:45 a.m. followed by 10am mass.


When are the first & last classes

Classes begin Sunday, September 16, 2018;  Last class is Sunday, April 14, 2019


Where are classes held?

Classes are held for both sessions in St. James School. Entrance off parking lot


Who are the teachers?

Kindergarten is taught by a High School Senior. All other grades are taught by adults.

Each class in the lower grades has a teenager serving as aide.


How do I register? 

It it's the first year registering your child, please call Moira McCarty, 766-1558 ext. 3 .

If it's not the first year registering your child, you should receive a registration form or click here
for the registration form.


Where do I send registration (s)

  • Mail to 33 Division Street – Manville, RI 02838

  • Bring registration to Faith Formation office or parish office located in the Brouillette Center (building behind the church)  9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Place registration in container at each entrance of the church. (August to mid September only)

Registration fee?

$35 per family


What grade do children receive First Communion?

Grade 2 - Attending Grade 1 class is part of the First Communion Preparation. Also, if not baptized at St. James, we will need a copy of the Baptismal Certificate.


What grade do students receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?

Grade 9 - Attending Grade 8 class is part of Confirmation Preparation

September 9: Faith Formation Committee Meeting 7pm in the Fr. Brouillete Center (open to all parents)

September 12: Family Fun Night 5pm Church Parking Lot (come meet the Scouts, Youth Ministry, and Faith Formation programs while playing games and other fun activities!

Attention Confirmation Candidates

Sunday September 9th
All candidates from St. Ambrose Parish will volunteer at the parish Clambake between 12 and 5pm. St. James candidates may participate if they still need service hours. Contact if interested.

Catechetical Sunday September 16th
Candidates and their families will attend the 10 mass at St. James for St. James candidates and the 11:15am Mass for St. Ambrose candidates at St. Ambrose and be officially recognized by their parish as candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  

Sunday September 30th
MANDATORY Confessions and Candidate workshop from 6-7:30pm at St. Ambrose Church.


Monday October 15th
MANDATORY Rehearsal and family pizza party beginning at 6pm at St. James Church.  Candidates and sponsors (or a parent) must be at the rehearsal, and the entire family is welcome at the party, in the gym, lower level of the Church at 6:45pm.  Pizza, salad and soda will be provided.  Each family is asked to bring a dessert to share. Please email with the number of people who will attend the party by October 11th.

Wednesday October 17th
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred by Bishop Tobin at 6:30pm at St. James Church.  Candidates and sponsors will assemble in the hall at 5:30pm.

Note: All children are expected to attend each and every year (1-8) in order to be eligible for the reception of the Sacraments. However, do not be afraid to call the religious ed office if this has not been the case for your child.
